We are pleased to announce the crypto industry’s first-ever emergency shutdown and user asset recovery test has come to a successful conclusion.

The first ever Dunkirk Test brought together communities, investors, research institutions, security auditors, media supporters, and fellow projects to collaborate and embrace a shared vision of improved user asset security.

Thank you all for making this happen!

What happened during the test?

  1. The open-source recovery program only took ~30 minutes to set up;
  2. The average time for node data synchronization was ~4 hours;
  3. The overall computational resources used were 13TB RAM, and 2500 CPU cores;
  4. 71,050 addresses claimed faucet tokens;
  5. 50,504 of them withdrew assets from a recovery node;
  6. Over 110,000 zero-knowledge proofs were generated;
  7. The number of transactions during the Dunkirk campaign was 329,400.

Raising Industry-Wide Security Awareness

Looking back, one of the intentions of initiating the Dunkirk Test was to raise awareness of security issues in the broader crypto industry.

During the simulation, traders not only participated in the process of generating zero-knowledge proofs, but also took part in the fund recovery experience: if a similar crisis occurs in the future, they can consciously look for a similar recovery program and save themselves.

We also surprised users by conducting a fake ‘rug pull’ one day earlier to simulate an emergency or sudden shutdown! As we told our users: FTX never warned anyone about their impending implosion, and in the next disaster, nor will anyone in the future. Don’t trust, verify!

A Test of Resilience for Crypto Protocols

The Dunkirk Test not only boosts user confidence in the robustness and security of the zkLink system, but also has far-reaching long-term impact, as it marked a pivotal moment for the crypto industry, serving as a catalyst for change and progress in the realm of security and resilience.

The Importance of the Dunkirk Test

zkLink aims to make the Dunkirk Test an industry standard to ensure that any crypto product claiming absolute fund security must pass this rigorous examination. By setting a high bar for security, the Dunkirk test can drive improvements in platform security and risk management across the DeFi ecosystem.

Putting Users First

Looking ahead, we appeal to other DeFi projects to join us by running their own Dunkirk Test, making it a gold standard for evaluating the resilience and security of DeFi platforms, protecting users’ funds under even the most extreme circumstances.

zkLink’s Dunkirk Test is not just a metaphor; it is a call to action for the crypto industry to prioritize asset security in a new complex financial ecosystem.
