The L3 Summit Recap, Istanbul 2023

Inside the rich cultural city of Istanbul, heard the warpath of blockchain developers and enthusiasts as they marched excitedly toward the Nippon Hotel for the launch of the first L3 Summit by zkLink on November 16th, 2023 and the long-awaited release of zkLink Nexus, Ethereum’s First Multi-ZK-Rollup L3 Trading Layer.

The L3 Summit attracted a diverse crowd of 250+ attendees, ranging from developers to Layer 2/3 enthusiasts who were treated to a carefully curated event to elevate awareness and deepen knowledge about innovative solutions in blockchain technology, particularly Layer 3.

Together we assembled a super lineup of Keynote Speakers from Taiko, Kakarot, zkSync, and zkLink where our own CEO presented a keynote himself regarding our newest announced Layer 3 solution Nexus. We also had other L2s who graciously turned up as panelists, having the support of serious talents from Polygon zkEVM, Linea, Manta, Mantle, Celestia, EigenLayer, and BNB Chain. Both participants and the audience were captivated by the extent of knowledge they shared through their sessions.

Throughout the day, speakers emphasized the potential benefits and opportunities that Layer 3 solutions offer. Each session was a deep dive into ZK systems, but the real highlight was the audience’s enthusiasm. The summit featured a series of engaging Q&A sessions, where attendees actively questioned speakers, seeking deeper understanding and clarity on Layer 3s.

A recurring theme between each question highlighted that Layer 3s were still in a nascent stage and that concepts were difficult to grasp. Panelists and speakers were unphased as they expertly guided the audience to understand complex concepts with various analogies and explanations .

Layer 3 is far from fluff, and some serious development around the tech is accelerating future development and reshaping the future of decentralized collaboration. The message of the event was clear, and can be distilled into 3 key points;

• While still in early stages, the Layer 3 benefits are too big to ignore, and the time to build new innovative models with the technology is NOW.
• Layer 3 benefits developers with superior scaling and easy deployment into multiple rollups at lower costs.
• Layer 3 creates a unified DeFi landscape for better UX, cheaper transactions, and less slippage.

Towards the end of the day, participants had slowly moved on to enjoy the rest of the festivities and side events that were happening in conjunction with DevCon Istanbul week. However, those that stayed behind continued to network and build relationships with other builders towards potential partnerships.

Conclusion

The Layer 3 Summit in Istanbul marked a significant milestone in the blockchain industry, offering a new platform for learning, discussion, and networking within all things L3. As the blockchain landscape continues to evolve, events like the Layer 3 Summit will continue to play a crucial role in shaping its future, one layer at a time.
